We are a small firm of surveyors who specialise in surveying and advising on the repair and maintenance of historic buildings.
We have an interesting and diverse portfolio of work and can provide varied and rewarding work to the right candidate. In comparison to other surveying firms, we undertake a low volume of work but provide an emphasis on competence, quality and providing excellent service and reports to our clients.
The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in building conservation and historic buildings.
The main responsibilities will be to undertake the following:
– Pre and post-purchase Building Surveys of historic and listed buildings of varying age, construction and status in excess of RICS Level 3 requirments.
– Damp & Timber surveys using a range of specialist equipment such as thermal imaging cameras, thermo-hygrometers and calcium carbide meters.
– Defect analysis surveys.
– Roof surveys using aerial drones.
– Specification writing for works to domestic historic and listed buildings.
– Site visits to advise on the repair, maintenance and material usage for works being undertake to historic and listed buildings.
The above list is not exhaustive and other tasks will be required as and when needed.
Whilst the main bulk of the work will be with historic and listed buildings, some work will also involve modern buildings. The job requires very good customer service skills as you will be dealing with clients, homeowners, estate agents etc. on a daily basis.
Types of properties you will be working on will vary widely from large manor houses, timber framed hall houses, barns and Victorian and Georgian cottages.
The successful candidate will ideally be experienced in undertaking surveys of a wide range of buildings as well as report writing. The job role will involve a large amount of report writing, therefore, experience in producing reports is essential.
The candidate will need to have an RICS qualification (AssocRICS, MRICS, FRICS), building surveying experience and a conservation qualification would also be beneficial.
The role is home and site based and you will be undertaking around typically 2-3 surveys a week, depending on the size of the properties, the work being undertaken and the time needed to write up the reports.
The role is certainly not focused on volume of work, but quality of work.
The role will involve travelling to and from site, so full UK driving license and the use of your own car with business insurance is essential.
The area covered is generally Essex, Kent, Surrey, London, Suffolk, Norfolk, however, you may be required to travel further afield. Overnight stays may be necessary occasionally.
